Thoughts On Understanding Mind Over Matter

Power of the human mind as expressed correctly in the idiom ‘mind over matter’ is immense and vast.
This is undoubtedly true since starting from concentration to willpower that is used for self development, from bearing pain by focusing your mind elsewhere to even moving matter with the power of thoughts, everything is possible if a human mind so desires as expression by the idiom ‘Mind over matter’.
The word Psychokinesis refers to the power of moving physical objects with the power of one’s mind. Thus, as a concept it signifies one kind of an extreme of the term ‘mind over matter’.
The word psychokinesis is often used synonymously with that of Telekinesis especially in case of movies and informal discussions on such topics. The latter word was originated to denote the physical movements of objects due to spirits and ghosts. Later on, during the 19th century, when a lot if studies were undertaken and the involvement of human mind in this phenomenon were realized, ‘psychokinesis’ term was coined.
Two types of measurement and therefore two categories of the psychokinesis phenomena are Micro and Macro psychokinesis respectively. The first one refers to minute changes in matter that is perceptible only through scientific instruments. The second type on the other hand refers to larger movement that can be seen by anybody with the naked eyes.
Other than such extreme paranormal aspects, the phrase ‘mind over matter’ finds extensive use in the mind centric explanations in the arena of philosophy or spirituality as well especially when it comes to responsibility assumption.
Responsibility assumption says that you yourself are responsible for your own fate. An important part of personal growth studies, it proclaims that your life and what it come out to be is what your mind power has resulted in.
Apart from this, concepts like the law of attraction or affirmations are also part of the new age spirituality that focuses around the concept of mind over matter.
According to the law of attraction, the power of visualization and affirmations can attract whatever you desire in your life into manifestation in reality. What you need to do is focus all your attention and concentration on this object of desire of yours, visualizing yourself attaining the same and affirming your subconscious mind.
Countless claimants to the power of psychokinesis exists in our world of which some can be mentioned in this point.
Martin Caidin was the author of the 1972 novel Cyborg. He was able to move energy wheels kept on the tops of one table or more.
The Israeli Uri Geller was known for his spoon bending abilities while Nina Kulagina, the Soviet psychic was known for her short films which she made demonstrating her psychokinetic abilities.
Mention must be made of Felicia Parise, an American laboratory technician who could move matters like plastic pill containers, aluminum foil, compass needles etc with the power of her mind. While she first performed these spontaneously, it was only after several intense concentration sessions and inspiration from the Nina Kulagina films that she was able to develop her powers to work at her will.
At the height of her career was also featured as the First American to Move Matter with Mind by the tabloid National Enquirer. She retired after reporting bodily stress from psychokinesis demonstrations.
Coming to more remote places of the world and talking about the psychokinetic ability existence there that may not be easily researchable by scientific means, mention must be made of Himalayas, the great mountain range in India which is known as the centre of positive energy and spirituality of the ancient East. Rare individuals, sadhus and monks renounce the whole world and live here in the pursuit of the highest form of self realization.
In the famous pilgrimage in India named normal ‘Kumbh Mela’ (annual), Ardh kumbh Mela (once in six years) and Purna Kumbha Mela (once in twelve years), visitors can see such ‘sadhus’ come to River Ganges and perform such miraculous feats like psychokinesis and the like.
Hence, it can be safely said that human mind has the power to do anything in life and achieve the impossible. You can move object with your thoughts or attract your object of desire with your concentration and infact create, control and change anything that you want in the world by truly believing and having faith in the statement ‘mind over matter’.
