Starting from the power of basic concentration to the power of your will power in improving yourself.
This is undoubtedly true since starting from concentration to willpower that is used for self development, from bearing pain by focusing your mind elsewhere to even moving matter with the power of thoughts, everything is possible if a human mind so desires as expression by the idiom ‘Mind over matter’.
The extreme situation where mind has complete control over an external physical matter and can influence it and physically move it, is known as psychokinesis. Considered as a rare psychic ability, this involves moving tables, chairs or other objects just by the sheer power of your thoughts.
During the 19th century, the word Telekinesis was coined which referred to movement of objects by ghosts or spirit of the dead. However, when in later years parapsychologists researched and experienced such paranormal phenomena in the light of the influence of human mind on the same, the term psychokinesis originated.
Two types of measurement and therefore two categories of the psychokinesis phenomena are Micro and Macro psychokinesis respectively. The first one refers to minute changes in matter that is perceptible only through scientific instruments. The second type on the other hand refers to larger movement that can be seen by anybody with the naked eyes.
Responsibility assumption again, is another aspect that should be discussed in the light of the expression ‘mind over matter’. A lesser extreme aspect than what is discussed above, this finds extensive usage in more mind centric aspects such as if found in philosophy, spirituality, etc.
Responsibility assumption says that you yourself are responsible for your own fate. An important part of personal growth studies, it proclaims that your life and what it come out to be is what your mind power has resulted in.
Other than this, other new age spirituality concepts such as the law of attraction or the mental affirmations also propose the same belief in having mind over matter.
As per the Law of Attraction, if you want something in your life and direct all your focus and concentration on it, intensely visualizing yourself after attaining the same and repeatedly telling yourself that it is coming your way, then your mind power will attract that very thing from the universe and make it happen to you in real life.
Psychokinetic power claimants are many in this world but mention must be made of a few of them.
The author of the 1972 novel Cyborg, martin Caidin could move energy wheels placed on one or more table tops.
Uri Geller, the Israeli was known for his spoon bending tactics. Mention must also be made of the Soviet psychic Nina Kulagina who demonstrated psychokinesis and shot these as short black and white films.
Felicia Parise again was another person worthy of mention who became quite a celebrity for her powers in psychokinesis. An American laboratory technician by profession, she was able to move matters like compass needles, pill containers and aluminum foil with her mind. In the beginning such abilities came to her spontaneously but inspired with Nina Kulagina’s films, she used intense focus and concentration to develop the powers to work at her will.
She was also stated as the First American who could move matter with her mind by an American tabloid. She left demonstrating telekinetic abilities due to too much stress on her body.
Coming down to spiritually advanced places like the Himalayas where modern scientific methods do not reach, it can be said that countless sadhus and monks live in the nooks and corners of this powerful place that radiates positive energy and is the seat of spirituality since ancient times in India, Nepal and Tibet. These sadhus give up everything that is worldly and pursue a path of mind power discovery till the time they realize their full potential.
India is known for its world famous holy pilgrimage named Kumbh Mela (Annual), Ardha Kumbh Mela (once in six years) and Purna Kumbh Mela (Once in 12 years) where such special souls come down to the holy river Ganges where feats such as the psychokinesis can easily be seen by everybody.
A belief in the phrase ‘mind over matter’ and a sincere effort towards developing the inner faculties that you are born with as a human, gives you the opportunity to create, control and change your life in the way you want and use the power of concentration, faith and true belief in creating your own destiny.
